(January 07, 1923 – May 19, 2010)
Born Ennis Lowery in Wharton, Texas, Larry Dale is a session guitarist who also recorded as a blues/R&B vocalist. On a par with Wild Jimmy Spruill and Mickey Baker, one of the major guitarists of the New York blues scene of the 50s.
It was alongside pianist Bob Gaddy that he made his studio debut in New York in 1952. It is above all as an accompanist that he is noticed: with Noble Watts, Sam Taylor, Bob Gaddy, Paul Williams, Cootie Williams converted to R&B at the time. However, it is his partnership with Champion Jack Dupree that we will remember.
He died at 87 in New York.
